What is Joshanda tea?

Joshanda is a herb used as a home remedy for cough, cold, inflammation, and fever. Joshanda can also be an anti-arthritic and natural antibiotic agent for various oxidative stress disorders. 

Joshanda is of liquorice, Malabar nut, hyssop, tea, peppermint, fennel, and eucalyptus. The concentrate may not be appealing, but it smells nice. It comes in sachets. Mix the powdery substance with hot water or milk and serve it like tea. It works as a relief from cold and flu symptoms. 

Joshanda tea is an instant herbal tea. It is for asthma, chronic bronchitis, cough, catarrh, and other seasonal changes. Joshanda is a herbal tea for physical fatigue and helps fight allergies and seasonal changes. Since it has lesser or no side effects, Joshanda is also for babies.

Chemical properties of Joshanda tea

There are phyto-compounds in joshanda and antioxidant, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory activities in the tea. Phyto-compounds protect cells from damage that could lead to cancer (breastcancer.org). The Joshanda aqueous extract consists of tannins, phenols, flavonoids, glycosides, terpenoids, and alkaloids and the absence of sterols, saponins, xanthoprotein, and carboxylic acid. 

Althea officinalis 

It cures coughing and relieves pharynx and chest congestion. It makes a protective layer on the skin and lining of the digestive tract. It also contains chemicals that decrease cough and fight infections. It is also for stomach ulcers, diarrhoea, and constipation.

Cordia latifolia 

It has soothing effects on the larynx and acts as a cleaner of the respiratory tract. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antiparasitic, insecticidal, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and protective effects (researchgate.net)

Malva rotundifolia (Khubbazi) 

It treats infections and diseases, such as cold, burn, cough, tonsillitis, bronchitis, digestive problems, eczema, and cut wounds. 

Onosma bracteatum (Gaozaban) 

It treats fever, bronchitis, asthma, rheumatism, stomach irritation, and other inflammatory disorders.

Viola odorata (Banafsha) 

It is a rich source of vitamin c. That makes it effective in Joshanda tea as it has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, anti-bacterial, and hepato-protective activity. It also improves cough suppression in children with asthma.

Zizyphus jujuba (Unnab) 

It helps treat respiratory system diseases like asthma, cough, laryngitis, gastrointestinal problems (constipation, colitis, and liver diseases), and cardiovascular and genitourinary system diseases (nih.gov).

Malabar nuts loosen chest congestion, open the breathing tubes, and treat spasms. It is for upper airway infections, common colds, cough, asthma, and tuberculosis. When it comes to treating respiratory disorders, consider Joshanda tea. 

The nuts contain carotene, vitamin C and essential oil, making the plant sedative, expectorant, antispasmodic, antiseptic, expectorant, anthelmintic and blood-purifying. It works in treating bronchitis, colds, whooping cough, asthma, tuberculosis, sore throat, and other lung and bronchial disorders.

It is for treating respiratory ailments and inflammatory conditions caused by seasonal changes, hypersensitivity, and viral and bacterial infections. Bacterial infections disturb the immune system and result in cough, cold, flu, chest congestion, and rhinitis. The tea is a combination of herbs that calms the symptoms through bronchodilator, increasing mucus secretion, immune regulation, and reducing inflammation. 

When using it for cough, it shows instant results. It works against bacteria, germs, and allergies because of its anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-allergy properties. It reduces nasal congestion and all other respiratory-related problems. 

Whatever allergy you have, try the tea on an empty stomach. Even with seasonal allergies, you can drink the tea during the period prior. It is not harmful to babies. You can use it on babies suffering from coughs and colds. Give the baby one spoon of Joshanda twice or thrice a day. Take the tea for fast recovery if you suffer from fever during coughs and colds.

How to make Joshanda tea

Mix the powder with milk or water to make tea. 

Steps

  1. Take 5 grams of Joshanda and add 225 ml of water to it. 
  2. Boil it until it becomes half of its initial quantity.
  3. For better results, take it lukewarm before going to bed.

How many cups of Joshanda tea can you drink?

Boil one packet of Hamdard Joshanda in a glass of water. Take it to warm twice a day or as directed by the physician. You can also use it.
