DIY Sea Salt Spray has some impressive effects on hair care. If you want perfectly tousled hair the second you step out of the shower, a sea salt spray is just the thing. These DIY recipes add a beachy, voluminous texture to your hair, and all take just five minutes.
If you’re the kind of girl or guy that likes to turn heads on the street, then you’re probably used to people asking you what you do to your hair. Yes, we all know you don’t dye it, and your hair is actually naturally that color. But, you’re not going to tell them the real reason: that you are actually the proud owner of a healthy head of hair that you take great care of—from the inside out.
A little bit about sea salt
Sea salt is an excellent natural exfoliant and conditioner for hair and skin. It’s magnesium rich (which is a mineral that helps you sleep at night). Sea salt’s added minerals also help to nourish hair follicles and lock in moisture. It doesn’t matter if you color your hair or not, sea salt will restore shine, promote growth, and stop dryness in its tracks.
Ingredients to use
Essential oils (optional)
Instructions for making DIY sea salt spray step by step: sea salt spray recipe
Pour 1 cup of sea salt and 3 Tablespoons of yeast into a glass bowl. Add a few drops of olive oil and 2 cups of warm water. Stir the mixture until all ingredients are well incorporated. Cover with a towel and let it sit over night in a dry, warm place. By morning you will have a white, creamy consistency.
Adding coconut oil
To sweeten the spray, you can add a little bit of coconut oil. It will make your spray thicker and smell like coconut (which is great for those with dry or oily hair). This is optional, but it would work well to give some added shine to your hair and skin.
When you wake up in the morning you will have a smooth, thick creamy texture and will look like you fell asleep with wet hair. Apply this once a week to help seal in moisture and prevent frizz.
Getting the right scent
You can either add your essential oils to the mixture to give it a unique scent, or you can use a pre-made essential oil diffuser. This will give your hair a natural scent and the smell in the air will add to the effect of the salt spraying throughout.
If you do not wish to spray water, there are other alternatives. Simply mix 1/3 cup sea salt with 2 Tbsp olive oil and 1/2 cup water (to make it more moisturizing).
Why should I use Sea Salt Spray?
Many people do not realize the simple fact that salt sprays amplify volume and shine. This can be used on all hair types, from curly to wavy; it will do no damage to your hair. When it comes to healthy hair, an increase in volume is essential—so why not take advantage of that?
Spray a little in your hands first to get a feel for how the spray feels. You may need a little more to get the volume you want. Do not squeeze out the oil and water mixture. Just mash it up with your fingers until it’s consistent in texture that it stays together well.
For best results, use every day—don’t stop after one day. The longer you do it, the better your hair will be—and getting to know how much spray you need is something you can do overtime. Always section off your hair when using this product for extra volume and shine.
How to use Sea Salt Spray
Add a few squirts of sea salt spray into your hair after you have towel-dried it. (It is best when your hair is slightly damp.) Next, use a blow dryer to completely dry and style as you wish. Finish the look off by adding a little bit of oil to the ends of your hair.
On straight hair
Apply a little bit of spray in your hair before blow drying. Start at the hairline and work down your hair.
On Curly Hair
Add a little bit of sea salt spray to each strand when styling as usual. For volume, press your hands into the top of each section, and turn the strands to the right side. For more volume, press them with your hands instead of using the back of your fingers though—this will help separate individual strands and provide a stronger “shine” effect.
On oily hair
If you want a clean, shiny look without having to wash your hair every day, this is the product for you. You don’t need very much to get the effect you want—a little bit goes a long way so be generous with your spray. It will leave your hair looking shiny and well-conditioned without weighing it down.
On wavy hair
Add a little bit of spray to all the strands in your hair before blow drying. Use your hands to rub it through the strands and then use a blow dryer to finish drying.
